This week, we’d like to help a single mum called Liv and her eight-year-old daughter. Liv has serious health conditions and their house is in a very poor state.
Liv has arthritis, fibromyalgia and chronic back pain, which mean there are days when she can barely move. She also has significant hearing loss, but wearing her hearing aids can trigger severe migraines. She has problems with her oesophagus that make eating difficult and is now facing major surgery for bladder and bowel prolapses. If she does too much, it can cause a flare-up that leaves her needing days of rest.
Liv has also experienced domestic abuse over many years. She and her daughter have had to move several times to keep safe, most recently leaving their home because of serious threats against them.
They are now living in a relative’s house, but it was left in a terrible condition by the previous resident. Liv has worked incredibly hard to slowly clear it out, despite all of the problems with her health.
She said: “I just want to feel somewhat normal and be able to do fun things with my daughter.”
They have a social worker and a support worker who said Liv is doing her best to create a home for her and her daughter, but she needs help.
We’d like to carpet the rooms that have bare floors, replace her broken cooker, pay for a skip to help with clearance, provide some furniture, bedding and other household things they need, and overall just help to turn the house into a lovely home for her and her daughter.
