#546 3 siblings

Request: Donatons / Kind Messages

This week, we’d like to help three siblings who all have Batten disease, a rare condition that gradually takes away their ability to see, walk, talk and eat independently.

Corey, Toby and Izzy are in their late teens and early twenties and are cared for around the clock by a combination of their parents and carers.

Batten disease is life-limiting and also causes seizures, which can become more difficult to manage as the condition progresses. All three of their children need to be monitored throughout the night in case they have a seizure.

Their parents are currently fundraising to replace their seizure-monitoring cameras, which are not working properly. But something that would be a huge help alongside the cameras is a NightWatch+ monitor.

The NightWatch+ is worn on the upper arm while the person sleeps. It monitors their heart rate and movements and sounds an alarm if it detects a possible seizure. It also records information that can be shared with their medical team.

Some families have been given NightWatch monitors through children’s hospices. But because these three siblings are now young adults, that help isn’t available to them. The NHS also can’t fund one.

This family have been through so much for so many years and we’d like to do something kind for them. A NightWatch+ costs around £1,500, and we'd like to do our best to buy them one.

(Some of you might remember we helped Corey, Toby and Izzy back in about 2014 with their original seizure monitors!)

What We Need

1. Donations: 100% of your donations will be used to buy the monitor. Any funds we raise above what's needed will be used to help them in other ways. You can donate online  or by text message using the details below.

2. Kind messages: If you would like to send a kind message for the family, you can either write your message in the form below and we will pass it along (your contact details won't be shared), or you can post a message to: 52 Lives (Life 546), PO Box 3154, Reading, RG1 9AT.

(We don't have a wishlist this week, as it's only the monitor that's needed)
