This week, we’d like to help a mum called Nora and her three children.
Nora’s 14-year-old son has cerebral palsy, is hearing impaired, autistic, and has significant mobility needs. They were recently evicted and had to move quickly, so for a little while he didn't even have a bed.
Nora herself has additional needs and is doing her best to manage her son’s care at home with very little support. Her youngest children are 11 and 3.
The home they were living in was in serious disrepair. The renovations promised by their landlord were never completed and they were left without proper heating or hot water for weeks at a time, and at one point the kitchen roof collapsed. The conditions were so poor that adaptations needed for her son couldn’t even be carried out. The landlord is being investigated.
On top of all of that, there were repeated attempted break-ins, which was terrifying for Nora and the children.

Nora fell into rent arrears and her landlord evicted them. They had to leave some of their belongings behind and they haven't been able to get them back (including her son’s weighted blanket and sensory toys).
Social services is involved and so Nora and the children have been rehoused quite quickly but the new property had no carpet, no cooker and no beds. They will be able to get some help from specific charities and social services for some items for her son, but there is so much more they need.
One of her support workers said: ”Nora always puts her children first and goes without so they can have what they need. I really feel she deserves some kindness and support."
We’d like to help them get set up properly so this can start to feel like a home.
