This week we’d like to help a five year old boy called Rory, his two big brothers, and his mum Sarah. Last year, Rory was diagnosed with Batten disease.
Children with Batten disease gradually lose the ability to walk, talk, see and eat, and rarely live past their teenage years. There is currently no cure. Rory’s condition is already severe so he isn't suitable for treatment. His life expectancy is sadly very limited.
Sarah is a single mum and cares for Rory full-time, so she's not able to work and the family has no financial support from the children's dad.
They’ve recently moved into a new housing association property, but it has no flooring – just concrete.
Rory loved being on the floor in their old house...he would roll around and play, but he can’t do that in this new house. It's not safe for him, and Sarah is worried about his wellbeing.
We would love to provide carpets for their home, so Rory has a soft, safe place to play again. We’d also love to provide a few other things to make life a little easier and brighter for all three boys, as well as something for Sarah too. She has so much to deal with and could do with some kindness herself. This support will make a huge difference to their lives.
