This week, we’d like to help a12-year-old girl called Tilly, who is finally beginning to feel safe again after a year of trauma and separation from her mum.
Tilly and her mum, Joanne, were both sexually assaulted in their home and subjected to ongoing harassment, which had a devastating impact on them. Joanne struggled to cope and started drinking. This led to Tilly temporarily living with her dad.
With the support of Children’s Services, Joanne worked really hard to turn things around. She has engaged fully with support services, attended recovery groups, and is now nine months sober. Her social worker said Joanne is deeply committed to doing the best for Tilly, so they have now moved back in together.
Tilly is really excited and happy to be back with her mum and they are slowly starting to rebuild their relationship after a really tough time apart. They have had to move away from their old area for safety reasons, but the flat they are now living in is very bare.
They are both getting mental health support, and Tilly is waiting for an autism assessment as well. She thrives with routine, structure and stability - all of which have been taken away from her in the past year.
We’d love to help them set up their home and also provide some things that we know would make a big difference for Tilly. We’d like to provide some bedroom furniture and decorations, and we know she loves bike riding, gaming and is a big fan of Billie Eilish, so we’ll send her some special presents related to her hobbies too.
