This week, we’d like to help Jenna, a single mum living with PTSD and agoraphobia.
Jenna has three daughters, aged 14, 19, and 24. Two of the girls are autistic, and all three have special educational needs. With Jenna’s phobia and the girls’ additional needs, just leaving the house can be extremely challenging for them.
For years, Jenna and the children were physically abused by the children’s father. Eventually, she found the courage to leave, and they spent two years in temporary accommodation.
They have just moved into a permanent house, but it’s very bare. They have beds, and that’s about it. Their belongings are stacked in cardboard boxes, and they don’t have any storage, living room furniture, or a cooker.
Jenna said: “I would so love it for my girls to have somewhere to put their clothes, rather than rummaging in boxes every day looking for something. And we only have two chairs in the house now, so two of us sit on the floor. I am so grateful for any support that we can possibly get – it would mean so much to me and my children.”
Jenna’s youngest daughter is waiting for a place at a local school, but there’s a long waiting list. She’s spending most of her time at home, which is starting to affect her emotionally.
This new house is their chance to start afresh, but without the basics it doesn’t really feel like a proper home yet. We’d love to help give this mum and her girls a lovely place to call home. Their social worker said it would make a real difference to their lives and help them finally settle after everything they’ve been through.
