This week, we’d like to help Penny – a pregnant mum who lost almost everything after being evicted while trying to make her home safe for her family.
Penny has a 7-year-old daughter with severe asthma and her partner has emphysema. They were living in a small, privately rented flat that was cold and covered in black mould.
Her daughter had been rushed to hospital multiple times due to her breathing, and doctors said the condition of the home was making her health worse. When Penny asked the landlord to fix the issues, he served them with an eviction notice instead.
They were placed in temporary accommodation and most of their belongings went into storage. When they couldn’t keep up with the payments, nearly everything they owned was thrown away.
They have just moved into a permanent council house, which doesn’t even have a washing machine.
The loss of everything they had has taken a huge toll. Penny already struggles with anxiety, depression and a chronic back problem. This has been far too much for her to deal with. She worries constantly about her family's health and about bringing a new baby into such instability.
We would love to help give this family a fresh start.
