This week, we’d like to help a young woman called Rayna, who ran away from home at age 11 to escape sexual and emotional abuse. She felt like leaving was the only way to keep herself safe.
She was placed into care, and over the years she’s moved between children’s homes, women’s refuges, supported living, and temporary supported housing. There’s an ongoing police investigation into what happened to her.
Rayna is autistic, has ADHD and some learning difficulties, so the constant change was exhausting and overwhelming. Each move meant starting over: new people, new rules, unfamiliar surroundings.
Now, for the first time in nine years, Rayna finally has somewhere permanent – a little council flat that’s hers. She’s excited, but it’s also daunting. She’s never lived alone before, and the flat is completely bare apart from a carpet, cooker, fridge and a bed.
She has a couple of people in her life who are helping her to learn how to live independently, and a sexual abuse advocate who is helping her with therapy projects and also with the police investigations. But she needs more help.
We’d love to help Ranya to get set up in her home so it’s not just a roof over her head – but a real home that she feels safe in. We’ve set up a wishlist with some of the things she needs (her favourite colour is pink because it makes her feel safe, so we’ve added lots of pink things) and we will use your donations to buy some of the bigger things she needs.
