52 Lives

Life #49

Request: School supplies, school shoes and a spa voucher for his mum

This week, 52 Lives would like to help a little boy called Zane.

Zane is from Rockhampton, Queensland, but is living in Brisbane so he can be closer to the hospital, where he has sadly had to spend the majority of the past year.

Last year, Zane was diagnosed with neuroblastoma (a type of cancer). His parents were told he has a 50/50 chance of beating it.

It is obviously a heartbreaking time for the family. Zane has been undergoing all sorts of treatments for almost a year now. The treatments are invasive, and often make him feel ill - something that's very difficult for someone so young to even begin to understand. It is also taking its toll, both emotional and financially, on his family.

Zane will be starting school soon. It may be a school in the hospital to begin with, but they are hoping it will be proper school soon. When I asked Zane's mum if there's anything they need, her request was a very simple one. She said she would love to give him fun new school supplies to start the year with.

Request:

1. A lunchbox, backpack, hat and drink bottle. Zane loves Batman, so ideally with Batman on them!

2. Gift vouchers for new school shoes.

3. A Beauty/Spa Voucher for his mum. Zane's mum, Kristie has had an incredibly tough year, and we would love to give her a gift voucher for a spa treatment. I know it won't change her life, but it would be a much-deserved treat for a wonderful woman.

Thanks to everyone's wonderful support, this is what we were able to send Zane...

- A $50 voucher to buy shoes for school (thanks to an anonymous Sunshine Coast man)
- A Batman backpack and lunch bag (thanks to Lynette Glubb - the lovely mum of Claire Ollier, our Life # 1)
- A Batman drink bottle and Superman hat (thanks to Maree)

As you can see from the photo, Zane is a very happy boy!

Mick, Karlene & Jake from Micks Backhoe Hire in Queensland very generously donated a $100 spa voucher for Zane's mum.

And Tami from Bass Photography Services very kindly donated a back to school photo session for Zane (https://www.facebook.com/bassphotographyservices)

Thankyou so much to everyone who offered help and who shared the request.
Here's a little message I received from Zane's mum..

"Thank you guys so much, Zane can't wait to start school with all his cool stuff and I can't wait for a spa day!"
