This week, we're helping two toddlers, Isaac and Ivy, in need of a safe, comfy home.
These two little ones are just 3 years and 18 months old. They were placed in emergency foster care after a serious incident at home. After an investigation, they are now only allowed supervised contact with their mum and have been taken out of foster care and placed permanently with their dad, David.
David had been sofa-surfing up until that point, but he and the children have now found suitable housing and all moved in a few days ago.
David was working in a restaurant, but had to leave his job to be with the children. This is the first time he’s cared for them on his own. He said he's so worried by everything that’s happened to them - the unexplained injuries, the time spent in foster care, and the continual upheaval - and is happy to have them home with him and safe.
But the house they’ve just moved into is bare and, having been homeless, David doesn't have many things.
He's managed to get some second-hand bits, and the local authority has provided a cooker and beds, but there’s a lot more they need. The crisis support fund that the social worker would usually apply to has been put on hold due to lack of funds.
We’d like to create cosy bedrooms for the children, with cupboards to store their clothes, a place to sit with their dad, and anything else they might need. We’d also like to have some funds to pay for any activities / lessons / days out they might like to do over the next few months.
Isaac and Ivy had a difficult start in life, but we’d like to help make this next stage a much better one for them.
