This week, we’d like to help a 17 year old girl called Luna, who has just left home and moved into supported accommodation.
Luna has a two year old daughter and has also been a young carer for her mum. She has spent the past few years doing her GCSEs from home, going to college, and looking after everyone.
Luna’s mum has disabilities and has a lot of struggles with her mental health. It ended up being too much for Luna to deal with. Luna’s mum has a boyfriend, who Luna didn’t get along with. It became toxic to keep living there, so Luna’s social worker helped her to leave.
She's learning to live independently, while finishing college and being a mum. "I've had a shock learning to live on my own and trying to juggle being a mum, college work and trying to run a flat and pay bills. It's hard to afford to make our flat a home."
She’ll be living in the supported accommodation until she turns 18 later this year. She’s been provided with white goods, curtains, carpets and safety gates – but she left her mum’s house with almost nothing so the flat is still very bare.
Luna has been through a tough few years and we’d like to do something kind for her. We’d like to help get them set up properly with all the extra bits and pieces to make it a home. We’d also like to provide a few things she needs for college and possibly also some training courses when she’s ready to start working.
