This week, we’d like to help a single mum called Esther and her daughter, who has Down's Syndrome.
Esther’s partner was emotionally and financially abusive over a long period of time. After he physically attacked her, she said couldn’t cope any longer and so left. Esther and her daughter slept on a friend’s sofa for two months. They have recently been placed in temporary accommodation by the council but they don’t have many of their belongings - her ex is disputing ownership of them.
Esther is working part-time, but she doesn’t have the money to replace everything they left behind. Esther said after she left, she ‘felt hopeless and incapable of giving a better chance to my daughter.’
“He has asked us to go back several times but I can’t live like that anymore. It isn’t easy starting over, and raising a child with special needs is difficult. But our life now is peaceful.”
Esther and her daughter have no washing machine, freezer, kitchen appliances, hoover, or bedding…and very few toys or clothes. Esther would also benefit from having a sturdy pushchair for her daughter.
We’d like to help.
