This week, we’d like to help a 23 year old woman called Dara who was a young carer for her mum and has been living in a hostel for the past few years.

Dara’s mum has a lot of mental health issues and was aggressive towards her. Throughout Dara’s childhood, her mum often threatened to take her own life and was sectioned several times. As Dara got older, it became more frequent and social services got involved. They agreed to accommodate Dara, but her mum threatened suicide if Dara agreed to go into care, and so Dara decided to stay at home with her. But shortly after, her mum moved to another area and left Dara behind.

Dara was placed in a hostel where she has lived for several years. She has been bullied by other residents, which has had a terrible impact on her already-fragile mental health. She has finally just been able to move into permanent accommodation but she needs help to make it into a home.
