This week, we’d like to help a woman call Kara and her 17 year old daughter, who have been living in a women’s refuge for 2 years.
Kara and her daughter fled domestic violence in 2021 and have been in the refuge ever since. Kara’s daughter has a chronic illness and a lot of health needs, which has made their situation much harder.
They were due to move into a new build council house and were so excited for a fresh start, but there has been a delay that will mean the property won’t be ready for up to a year.
Kara had a choice. Either move into temporary accommodation (which could be a hotel or another hostel) and lose the new house she has been offered, or move back to her old house and wait for the new one to be ready. Kara is worried about having her daughter in temporary accommodation again, and so has made the decision to move back to their old house for now – where she was abused. In the time they’ve been away, the furniture and some of their belongings have been damaged.
Her partner was in prison but has recently been released. Her support worker said: “Kara is currently suffering from a lot of stress and anxiety knowing that she is returning to the property that she was abused in. She needs to replace many items before she can move back and she also wants to feel safe and to have peace of mind.”
We’d like to help. We’d like to provide some security equipment to help Kara and her daughter feel safe, replace some of their damaged things, and also send a few little gifts for them both.
