#389 Layla

Request: Donations / Gifts / Kind messages

This week, we’d like to help a young woman called Layla, who lost her nan (who was her main carer), her baby and her brother all within two years of each other.

Layla’s mum couldn’t care for her properly so when she was 11, Layla moved in with her nan. Layla fell pregnant when she was 17 and a week before her baby was due, her nan died from Covid.

Layla’s baby boy was born with a tumour behind his eye and has a lot of developmental challenges. She gave birth again last year but her baby was sadly stillborn. Two months later, Layla’s younger brother was killed.

Layla has no family support and is caring for her two year old son, who has a lot of additional needs, on her own. She was nominated by her support worker, who said “Layla is desperately trying to move on with her life. She wants to make a fresh start and make a home for them that she can be proud of, but she lacks resources to make the house a home.”

Their current floor is old wood that splinters easily and her son can’t walk on it without shoes on.

We’d like to provide flooring - and as many other things as we can to help Layla make a home for her and her son. We’d also like to send her some kind messages to give her some moral support.

What We Need

1. Donations: Your donations will be used to pay for flooring and anything else Layla and her son need. 100% of what you give will be used to help them.

2. Gifts from a wishlist: We've set up an Amazon wishlist with some of the smaller things they need - to buy a gift, please click the link below. You will be taken to Amazon where you can choose an item that will be sent directly to the family (just tick 'this is a gift' and choose the gift registry address when you check out).

3. Kind messages: To send a kind message for Layla, please write it in the form below or post it to: 52 Lives (389), PO Box 3154, Reading, RG1 9AT.

What We Did

Thanks to all of you, we have been able to provide proper flooring, lots of things for their home, sensory toys for her son, some support with bills as well as vouchers for clothes and food. You also sent her so many kind messages to let her know she is not alone. Thank you all so much for helping to create this home for them.
