This week, we’d like to help a 13 year old boy called Jacob, who currently shares this single bed with his mum.
Jacob’s social worker got in touch to ask if we could help. She said Jacob has been living in unsanitary home, with no bed of his own, no cooker and no fridge. “He also doesn't have anything to stimulate him at home, which is really impacting his wellbeing.”
Jacob has a lot of anxiety – mostly about his weight. He hides himself away as much as possible and wears multiple layers of clothing whenever he leaves the house to try to hide his body.
Jacob lives with his mum, Rebecca. Rebecca was sexually abused and also lost a close family member, which set off a downward spiral in her mental health. She has a health condition, which causes her to have very low energy and she gets tired just doing simple daily tasks. The combination of these two things has meant that over the past couple of years, the house has fallen into complete disrepair. Jacob told his social worker that his mum had been scared of social services seeing their house, as she was terrified he would be taken away.
But social workers have now helped her to put some strategies into place so she can manage the house and look after herself and her son. Her medication has been reviewed and changed, and she is now feeling much better and has a lot more energy. She is also going to see a counsellor to help her deal with what happened to her
It's been a really tough few years for Jacob, and with your help, we’d love to do some kind things for him, and also provide the essential things they need for their home.
