#331 Akin

Request: Donations / Gifts from a wishlist / Messages

This week, we’d like to help a 13 year old boy called Akin. Akin has disabilities and has suffered terrible abuse at the hands of a relative.

He was born with talipes (club foot), spina bifida, cerebral palsy and fluid on his brain. He is in a wheelchair and is incontinent. He has regular treatment in hospital and needs a lot of care when he is at home. Akin was living with his dad (his mum usually lives in another country), but he sadly passed away several years ago, and so Akin was left in the care of a relative.

Children’s services became after involved after Akin disclosed to staff at school and in the hospital that his relative had been hurting him. There were concerns around physical and emotional abuse, and neglect. Akin was placed in foster care, until his mother could get permission to live with him in the UK.

She is thankfully now living here, and Akin is safe at home with her. They have been given accommodation by the local authority, but they have virtually nothing. His social worker said they are in desperate need of support.

This young boy has been through such a terrible time, and we’d like to give him a lovely home to live in.

What We Did

Thanks to all of you, everything was bought from the wishlist and we also raised almost £2000, which has been used to provide beds, mattresses, storage furniture, white goods, and a laptop and printer for Akin. We are also paying for some driving lessons for his mum, which will help to give her and Akin a bit more freedom as he gets older.

On top of all of that, we also received so many kind messages for them both. Thank you to everyone who helped in some way. You have given this young boy and his mum such a great start in their new life together.
