#313 Refugees

Request: Donations / Clothes and shoes from a wishlist / Kind cards and messages

This week, we’re trying to help 50 refugee children, who have recently arrived in the UK. They are staying in temporary accommodation in the Reading area, but arrived with very few possessions.

We’ve been asked if we can help to provide pyjamas, warm clothes and shoes for as many of the children as possible. With your help, we’d love to do that. These children have been through so much and we’d like to show them as much kindness as we can, so they feel safe, warm and welcome.

WHAT WE NEED

1. Donations: We'll use 100% of your donation to help provide clothing, shoes and pyjamas. Any funds we raise above what is needed for the children will be used to help more families in the same situation. You can donate online or by text using the details below.

2. Clothes from a wishlist: We've set up an Amazon wishlist filled with winter pyjamas, jumpers, gloves, hats and shoes. To buy an item, please click the link below. You will be taken to Amazon, where you can choose something which will be sent directly to the charity workers supporting the children (just tick 'this is a gift' and select 'gift registry address' at checkout).
Have clothes to donate? Before sending any second hand clothing, please click here to contact The Cowshed charity, who are supporting the children, to find out what else is needed and where to send it.

3. Kind messages: We'd love to send kind cards and messages, along with the clothing. The children in our Kids' Kindness Club have been making 'welcome' cards this week - and we'd love to have lots more! You can post a card to: 52 Lives (Life # 313), PO Box 3154, Reading, RG1 9AT or email a message by completing the form below (your contact details will not be shared).

WHAT WE DID

In just one week, more than £1700 worth of brand new clothes and shoes were donated, and we received more than £1500 in donations to help the children and their families as well.

But it wasn’t just financial help - the kind cards people sent in for us to pass along to the refugee families were incredible. I think my favourites were these ones made by children in our School Kindness Workshops!

Thank you so much to everyone single one of you who helped in some way. And thank you to The Cowshed for their incredible work in supporting so many families.
