This week, we’d like to help a 13 year old girl called Kira, who is a young carer for her mum. Her mum has depression, anxiety and is unable to leave the house. Kira also helps to care for her 9 year old sister.
It's been really tough, and recently the relationship between Kira and her mum broke down, and Kira left. She went to live with her dad, but shortly after, her dad was sent to prison and so Kira is back living with her mum again.
Kira has had to deal with so much at such a young age, and it’s taking its toll on her own mental health. The house she lives in with her mum and sister is very small. She really needs her own space, so she has started sleeping on a sofa in the front room. It’s small and uncomfortable and the carpet in the room is in a terrible state.
Their social worker said: “I would love for them to have clean carpet for the children to walk on, and a proper sofa bed for Kira to sleep on. Kira’s mum is upset that she can’t provide these things, she’s just really struggling."
We'd like to help.
