This week, we’d like to help a single mum who is struggling. Nicky was brought up in the care system, and experienced a lot of trauma from a very young age. As an adult, she experienced even more trauma and abuse, and her mental health has rapidly deteriorated
She’s incredibly anxious, and was afraid for us to share too much detail of what she’s been through, in case someone recognised her story.
Nicky now has children of her own, and she is scared that her mental health will lead to her children being put into care.
She said: “Being a care leaver and young parent, things have always been really difficult but I do the best I can. These past few years have gone from bad to worse but I want to do everything I can to prevent my children going in to care.”
They live in a tiny, overcrowded house and for most of the past year, Nicky has slept on the sofa with the children because it’s more comfortable than their beds. At the moment she is sleeping on a mattress on the floor in the bedroom with her youngest son.
Nicky was nominated by her social worker, who is helping her to get the emotional and practical support she needs. With your help, we'd like to provide comfortable beds and proper flooring for their flat.
