#305 Nicky

Request: Donations / Kind messages

This week, we’d like to help a single mum who is struggling. Nicky was brought up in the care system, and experienced a lot of trauma from a very young age. As an adult, she experienced even more trauma and abuse, and her mental health has rapidly deteriorated

She’s incredibly anxious, and was afraid for us to share too much detail of what she’s been through, in case someone recognised her story.

Nicky now has children of her own, and she is scared that her mental health will lead to her children being put into care.

She said: “Being a care leaver and young parent, things have always been really difficult but I do the best I can. These past few years have gone from bad to worse but I want to do everything I can to prevent my children going in to care.”

They live in a tiny, overcrowded house and for most of the past year, Nicky has slept on the sofa with the children because it’s more comfortable than their beds. At the moment she is sleeping on a mattress on the floor in the bedroom with her youngest son.

Nicky was nominated by her social worker, who is helping her to get the emotional and practical support she needs. With your help, we'd like to provide comfortable beds and proper flooring for their flat.

1. Donations: We will use your donation to buy beds, bedding, storage furniture and flooring, to help Nicky create a proper home for her children. 100% of what you give will be used to help them. To make a donation online or by text, please use the details below.

2. Kind messages: We'd love to send Nicky some kind messages to help her feel supported. To send a kind message, please send it by post to: 52 Lives (Life # 305), PO Box 3154, Reading, RG1 9AT, or email by writing your message in the box below (your contact details will not be passed on).
