#237 Agnes

Request: Donations / Gifts / Messages

This week, we’d like to help Agnes, an 81 year old lady from Scotland. Her daughter sadly died of cancer three years ago, leaving behind 6 young children. Two of the children were going to end up in the care system, so Agnes took them in and they now live with her full time.

Agnes is not well and is in daily pain, but she does everything she can for the boys, who are now aged 10 and 12. A support worker for the family said: “Every time I ask how she is, she just tells me: ‘I’m fine’ dear – she never complains and is a truly inspirational woman."

But Agnes is now in isolation with her grandchildren, so life has become much harder. They live in a council house with a tiny garden that is in need of a lot of work, and there is very little for the boys to do – indoors or out.

We would love to help make this time easier for them.

What We Need

1. Donations...to help fix their garden and buy some of the bigger items, such as bikes and play equipment for the boys. Any donations we receive above what is needed will be used to help Agnes and the boys in other ways. 100% of what you give will be used to help them.

2. Gifts from a wishlist...we have set up a wishlist with some toys and games to help keep the boys occupied as well as a few special surprises for Agnes (her friend told us what she likes). To buy a gift, please click the link below. Your gift will be sent directly to the family (the wishlist will show 'A.J')

3. Kind messages...to send a kind message to Agnes or the boys, please send it to 52 Lives (Life # 237), PO Box 3154, Reading, RG1 9AT. Or you can email a message by writing it in the form below (your contact details will not be passed along).

What We Did

Thanks to you, every item was bought from their wishlist and we raised more than £1500 on donations. We've been able to buy them toys, bikes, new beds and we replaced Agnes's broken washing machine. We also received so many kind messages for Agnes (just like the one pictured below). Thank you so much for doing this. Agnes is feeling completely overwhelmed by all the kindness and is so grateful to you all.
