#173 Franny

Request: Bedroom furnishings / Donations / Messages

This week, we’d like to help an 8 year old girl called Franny who recently lost her mum. We need to protect Franny’s privacy, so can't share too many details. But her mother’s death was sudden and devastating for Franny. There was some conflict around where Franny would live and who would look after her, and it caused a lot of trauma for a little girl who was already going through such a difficult time.

Franny is now living with her dad, stepmum, two step-sisters and her half-brother, who welcomed her with open arms. But Franny arrived at their house with nothing – her clothes, toys, and even gifts her mum had given her - were all left behind.

It has been a big adjustment, not just for Franny but also for her siblings, who are getting used to having a new family member live with them. They also have a lot of anxiety around the loss of Franny’s mum. On a practical level, Franny’s dad and stepmum have had to convert the loft to create an extra bedroom, as all 3 girls were having to share 1 room. They would absolutely love to be able to decorate Franny’s bedroom, and fill it with new furniture, toys…everything she could wish for.

Which is where we come in! We would love to help them to create a beautiful new bedroom for Franny. We would also love to do something kind for her siblings, to give them all a fresh start as a family.

What We Need

1. Bedroom furnishings - Franny will be sharing a bedroom with her step-sister who is almost the same age as her. Her older step-sister will be moving into the loft bedroom. We want to help redecorate both bedrooms so all three girls have somewhere lovely to relax and play. We have created an Amazon wishlist with some of the things we need. To buy an item from the wishlist, please click the link below.  (To buy an item,  add it to your basket and at checkout choose the 'gift registry address' - if you have any trouble please feel free to email us and we can help admin@52-lives.org)

2. Donations - We will use donations to help pay for the paint they need, for decorating and anything else they might need.

3. Messages - To send a kind message to Franny or any of her family members, please write your message in the form below. All messages will be passed along (your name will be shared with the family but not your contact details). Or you can post a message to 52 Lives (Life # 173), PO Box 3154, Reading, RG1 9AT.

What We Did

Thanks to all of you, every item was bought from the Amazon wihslist, and we also raised enough money to pay for the bedrooms to be carpeted and decorated. And they look beautiful! They also used some of the Amazon gift cards they receive to purchase books for the children's school to help other children going through difficult times. After paying for everything, the family still had some funds leftover. When I asked Franny's step-mum if there was anything else they needed, she said they have already been so heartened by the kindness everyone has shown, and so they want to do something kind for someone she - she has asked me to use the money to buy a new bike for Luke (Life # 176)  - a young boy we are helping who escaped domestic violence. It will mean the world to him to be able to go shopping for a brand new bike. Thank you so much!

Thank you to everyone who help to make this happen. There is so much good in this beautiful world. xx

A note from Franny's step-mum

"From the bottom of my heart I thank each and every one of you, for all your donations and having us in your thoughts.
I am very proud of the finished rooms, the timing has been perfect (and much quicker than we could of ever achieved without you all) as the girls start their counselling this week so I am so relieved they will be settled in their own rooms, having the house back to normality will help them immensely if they need their own space.
The books purchased for the girls school will help support many children in similar situations to ourselves for many years, that is an amazing credit to you all.
Every message received, we shared as a family and we have been so overwhelmed by them all. 'Franny' continues to amaze me daily and the bond the girls have is gorgeous, it's an absolute pleasure to be their mam/step mam. I wish you all the very best and hope you are all well. Please continue to support 52 lives, I didn't appreciate how much it means until I was at the receiving end and I can reassure you that every message helps you smile a little bit more."
