This week, we’d like to help an 8 year old girl called Franny who recently lost her mum. We need to protect Franny’s privacy, so can't share too many details. But her mother’s death was sudden and devastating for Franny. There was some conflict around where Franny would live and who would look after her, and it caused a lot of trauma for a little girl who was already going through such a difficult time.
Franny is now living with her dad, stepmum, two step-sisters and her half-brother, who welcomed her with open arms. But Franny arrived at their house with nothing – her clothes, toys, and even gifts her mum had given her - were all left behind.
It has been a big adjustment, not just for Franny but also for her siblings, who are getting used to having a new family member live with them. They also have a lot of anxiety around the loss of Franny’s mum. On a practical level, Franny’s dad and stepmum have had to convert the loft to create an extra bedroom, as all 3 girls were having to share 1 room. They would absolutely love to be able to decorate Franny’s bedroom, and fill it with new furniture, toys…everything she could wish for.
Which is where we come in! We would love to help them to create a beautiful new bedroom for Franny. We would also love to do something kind for her siblings, to give them all a fresh start as a family.
Thanks to all of you, every item was bought from the Amazon wihslist, and we also raised enough money to pay for the bedrooms to be carpeted and decorated. And they look beautiful! They also used some of the Amazon gift cards they receive to purchase books for the children's school to help other children going through difficult times. After paying for everything, the family still had some funds leftover. When I asked Franny's step-mum if there was anything else they needed, she said they have already been so heartened by the kindness everyone has shown, and so they want to do something kind for someone she - she has asked me to use the money to buy a new bike for Luke (Life # 176) - a young boy we are helping who escaped domestic violence. It will mean the world to him to be able to go shopping for a brand new bike. Thank you so much!
