This week, we’d like to help a family from Surrey going through a very tough time. They were nominated by staff at a children's hospice.
Toni and Dave have a 2 year old daughter called Callie, who has a serious heart condition. Her life is spent going in and out of hospital. She tires incredibly easily and finds it difficult to go anywhere, even for short periods of time. Callie is not currently on the list for a heart transplant – she was turned down by one hospital as she was deemed too high risk. So she is awaiting assessment at another hospital to see if they might give her a different answer – it’s the only option the family has left.
Callie loves to play outside and, given her condition, their own garden is the best place for her to be. But it is not child-friendly, so Callie isn’t able to use it. The fence is rotten and covered in ivy, and Toni and Dave haven’t been able to afford to replace it.
Dave has been unwell and unable to work. He has been struggling with health issues, and has had to undergo two surgeries on both his legs to treat a condition he has. He has another surgery scheduled for December. This means Callie’s care falls mostly to her mum Toni.
They have so much to deal with at the moment, and with your help we would love to do something kind for them. We want to give them some practical help, and also help them feel loved and supported at a time when they really need it.
