#4 Trinity St Mary's

Request: To lift Katie's spirits!

This week, we visited the lovely children at Trinity St Mary's School in Essex to run a Kindness Workshop.

During the workshop, we shared the story of a young girl called Katie, a 10 year old girl from Devon who has had a very tough few years. When Katie was 6 years old, she was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis. During the past 4 years, this has meant endless joint injections, blood tests and medication with awful side effects. She needed a wheelchair for a little while, and was bullied quite badly. She missed a lot of school and was also home schooled for 6 months because her health became so bad. At age 9, the medication caused her to go into puberty prematurely, which caused even more bullying and completely shattered her confidenece. Her mum said she spent most of the time shut in her room.

When the children heard about Katie, they wanted to do something to lift her spirits. They spent the morning making cards, writing stories, drawing pictures and recording video messages, which we have now sent to Katie. These small acts of kindness will make such a big difference to Katie - knowing you aren't alone, and that people out there care about you, can make all the difference in the world.
