#18 Downsend School

Request: Kindness for Keegan

This week 52 Lives visited the wonderful Downsend School in Leatherhead.

It was an amazing day, with every single pupil showing our Director of Kindness, Greig, the true meaning of kindness. Both children and teachers made the interactive presentation such a fun and vocal experience.

After discussing the importance of kindness and how our individual positive actions can affect the world we live in, the children were told about this week's life - Keegan, a 13 year old boy from Liverpool who has a form of muscular dystrophy which is sadly terminal. He now only has use of his hands and neck and has been through so much already in his short life. Keegan's mum got in touch to ask 52 Lives if people would mind sending her brave son birthday cards for his upcoming 14th birthday, with the intention of showing Keegan that people care and that he is supported.

Upon hearing Keegan's story, the children at Downsend School could not wait to send Keegan their love and support. Keegan is a huge Liverpool football fan and the children jumped all over this fact and made the most beautiful cards, gifts, posters, video messages and letters packed with Liverpool-themed messages.

England and former Liverpool Footballer Glen Johnson and his lovely wife Laura heard about Keegan and sent him signed football boots. It really is amazing how far kindness can spread.

The messages were all of love and support and, as research has shown, those alone can elevate a person's spirits and in turn their health. We are in no doubt that the kindness Downsend School has shown Keegan would have brightened up the life of both Keegan and his family, if even for just a few hours.

Thank you for all your love and support Downsend School.

xx
