#14 TSM and St George's

Request: Love for Brooke

This week the 52 Lives School Kindness Project was absolutely blown away with the love and support two schools on opposite sides of the country showed a young girl from Watford.

Brooke is 11 years old and has been ill since the day she was born. She has a condition called Diamond Blackfan Anemia (DBA), which is a rare blood disorder where her bone marrow doesn’t make enough red blood cells. She has had to have hundreds of blood transfusions and underwent a bone marrow transplant and chemotherapy in 2014. She sadly also suffered from sepsis and spent 4 months on life support. Her hip has now started to crumble – they think as a result of the chemotherapy she had. So she is in constant pain, taking high dose painkillers every day, and has to be in a wheelchair now on some days. Brooke is an amazing little girl who has been through so much.

52 Lives visited St George's School on Bourton and Trinity St Mary's School in Balham and told the children all about Brooke and what an amazing little girl she is. Brooke's story clearly hit the children hard and they could not wait to make her cards and gifts telling her just how brave and inspiring she is. The children also learned that Brooke was an Arsenal football fan and this became the inspiration for many of the gifts that they made. Our Director of Kindness, Greig, was overwhelmed by the gifts and messages that the children wanted to send to Brooke. The workshops were a wonderful success and it's fair to say that everyone left with their hearts filled to brim.

Brooke and her mum, Amber, couldn't believe all the love and support they had received when Jaime and Greig delivered the boxes of gifts. What an amazing world we live in. Take a look at the video below to see what the children did and to also hear Brooke and her mum's reaction when receiving all this love and support.
