52 Lives

#12 Whittlebury School

Request: Oscar

The 52 Lives School Kindness Project was welcomed to the beautiful little town of Whittlebury in Northampton this week. One of the children's mum's had heard our Director of Kindness, Greig, speak at a Macmillan Cancer Support conference and was so inspired by the science of kindness that she quickly signed her children's school, Whittlebury Primary, up for a workshop.

The day was an incredible success and the children went above and beyond in sharing their kindness with an amazing little boy called Oscar.

Oscar, who is almost 4 years old, was born prematurely and has a condition called severe bilateral dystonic cerebral palsy. It means he can’t walk, sit unaided, feed himself, or speak. He communicates mostly using his eyes. Oscar doesn’t sleep very well either. He wakes up every couple of hours during the night, as he often gets himself into awkward positions and needs his parents to readjust him.

The children at Whittlebury Primary wanted to let Oscar know just how amazing they think he is. The cards, gifts and messages of love and support the children and teachers sent to Oscar were beautiful and heartfelt. Oscar was truly overwhelmed when he received them. This is what the wonderful children at Whittlebury Primary did.....

Thank you from Oscar!

"Oscar's letters arrived from Whittlebury Primary School. We have spent the afternoon reading them- it brought a smile to his face and a tear to my eye. I will keep them safe in his memory box. We have never felt so special! The kindness from strangers is unbelievable but when it comes from Oscar's peers, it makes it even more special - what a wonderful future generation. Thank you so much for showing them compassion and kindness - it's a gift."
