#330 Niko

Request: Donations / Gifts / Messages

This week, we’d like to help a 9 year old boy called Niko, and his family.

Niko has an autism diagnosis. He has been expressing suicidal thoughts and his parents are worried sick. He also has very violent outbursts, hurting his parents and causing a lot of damage to the home. He has been referred to child mental health services, and also a charity that helps parents deal with physical abuse from children.

It’s a terrible situation and they are really struggling.

Niko’s mum has a condition that causes her joints to dislocate, so she lives in crippling pain. She has attempted suicide in the past, and still struggles with her mental health. She was managing to work part-time, but has just made the tough decision to quit so she can look after Niko and her own health as well. It will leave them with less money, but it’s become too difficult to carry on.

Niko’s dad has a huge amount on his plate. He has a low paying and unreliable job, and is doing his best to look after everyone, but their support worker told us they have reached crisis point.

Health workers have recommended a lot of sensory items for Niko, as well as some outdoor equipment, which the family can’t afford. We’d like to provide this for them, as well as a tablet and some special apps for Niko, to help him feel calmer.

If we can, we’d also like to buy his mum with some specialist shoes and a mobility aid, to help ease her pain.

What We Need

1. Donations: We'll use your donation to buy some of the bigger items needed. 100% of what you give will be used to help Niko and his family. You can donate online or by text using the details below.

2. Gifts from a wishlist: We've set up a small wishlist with some sensory items for Niko, as well as a few toys for his siblings. To buy a gift from the wishlist, please click the link below. Your gift will be sent directly to the family (just tick 'this is a gift' and select 'gift registry address' at checkout). The list is only a small one this week, so if it's empty it means kind people have already bought everything they need!

3. Kind messages: To send a message for the family, please write it in the form below and we will pass it along (your contact details will not be shared), or you can post a card or message to: 52 Lives (Life # 330), PO Box 3154, Reading, RG1 9AT.

WHAT WE DID

Thanks to your kindness, we have been able to buy Niko all the sensory toys and equipment that his health workers recommended. We also managed to buy his mum a special mattress and shoes that will hopefully help to reduce her pain, and sent some grocery vouchers to take some financial pressure off them. Your kind messages continue to flood in for this family, and are all being passed onto them. It’s given them a much-needed boost at a time when they really needed it.
