#290 Blake

Request: Gifts from a Wishlist / Donations / Kind Messages

This week, we’d like to help a 4 year old boy who has been placed in the care of his grandma and grandpa.

Blake’s mum and dad haven’t seen him since he was a toddler. He has been receiving shared care between his uncle and grandparents, however, his uncle is going through a really tough time with his mental health and sadly isn’t able to care for him now.

Blake’s grandparents are now looking after him full-time. They are happy to have him, but it is a struggle for them at the moment.

The grandpa recently had a severe heart attack and the grandma is also not in good health and has had to leave her job to care for Blake. They have little money, and have fallen behind on bills so they haven’t been able to provide Blake with the things they would like to.

Their family supporter worker said: “They have the best interests of their grandson at the heart of everything they do. Anything that can be done to help would be truly wonderful.”

With your help, we'd like to provide what they need.

What We Need

1. Donations: You donations will be used to provide Blake with the things he needs (such as outside toys and vouchers for school shoes), and also to help take some financial pressure of his grandparents by providing carpet, replacing their broken freezer and paying some bills.

2. Gifts from a wishlist: We've set up an Amazon wishlist with some things for Blake. To buy a gift from the wishlist, just click the link below, choose your gift and send it to the 'gift registry address'. Your gift will be sent directly to Blake.

3. Kind messages: We'd love to send Blake and his grandparents lots of kind messages to let them know we're thinking of them. To send a message, please either write it in the form below and we will pass it along (your contact details will not be shared), or you can post your message to 52 Lives (Life # 290), PO Box 3154, Reading, RG1 9AT.

What We Did

Thanks to all of you, Blake now has everything he needs. We also paid the bills they had fallen behind on and replaced their broken freezer. We’re even going to be able to send them on a little family weekend away – something they never would have been able to do for Blake without your help.

Thank you all so much. Blake has been through a lot, and your kindness is going to make a big difference for him - and take so much pressure of his grandparents too. His grandma wanted me to pass her thanks along to everyone who helped them.
